Thunder WIIN Act Project
Heavy Metal Contamination Cleanup
Under the Thunder WIIN Act, Ryno Construction was contracted to complete critical mine reclamation and watershed protection work at the headwaters of the East Mancos River in southwestern Colorado. The project addressed arsenic and heavy metal contamination stemming from 100-year-old abandoned mine waste leaching into the watershed.
Our team excavated and removed legacy mine waste from the drainage area, consolidating the material in a secure containment zone. The waste area was then capped with natural rock and native vegetation, stabilizing the site and reducing further environmental impact.
Drainage Improvements
To further protect water quality, Ryno Construction repaired the mine drainage, safely rediverting flow away from contaminated zones and reducing the risk of ongoing leaching into the East Mancos River.
This project demonstrates Ryno Construction’s expertise in environmental remediation, mine reclamation, and watershed protection, contributing to the long-term health of a vital regional water source.
