South Canyon Coal Mine Fire Rockfall Mitigation
Coal Mine Fire Hazard Mitigation
Ryno Construction was contracted to complete critical rockfall mitigation work in the South Canyon area near Glenwood Springs, Colorado, where the South Canyon coal mine fire continues to burn underground. The fire has increased rockfall hazards in the area, threatening popular mountain bike trails and a county road located directly below the unstable slope.
Rockfall Mitigation with Cable Netting
To reduce this risk, Ryno Construction installed high-strength rockfall netting along the affected slope. Our team utilized technical rope access techniques to safely navigate and work on steep, unstable terrain—highlighting our specialized experience in repelling-based construction and slope stabilization projects.
Public Land Restoration
In addition to the netting installation, we performed trail restoration and dirt work to repair sections of the mountain bike network impacted by fire and rockfall. The project reflects Ryno Construction’s capability to safely execute complex geotechnical work in hazardous environments, combining technical skill with field-proven safety practices.
