Colorado Parks and Wildlife Crystal River Spring Line Imrovements
Environmental Protection Expertise
Ryno Construction was contracted by Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW) to complete the Crystal River Spring Line Replacement Project at the Crystal River Fish Hatchery in Carbondale, Colorado. The project was designed to intercept and redirect irrigation water that was seeping into the hatchery’s raceways, potentially contaminating critical fish habitats.
Our scope of work included the installation of a new spring line system and underground dyke walls to mitigate subsurface water permeation. We also installed diversion boxes to allow for emergency water diversion in the event of contamination threats to the hatchery.
Active Dewatering and Discharge Reporting
Working within the active water table, the project required extensive dewatering and bypass pumping operations using a 15-inch bypass line to keep excavation areas dry. Ryno Construction operated under a CDPHE (Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment) discharge permit and provided routine reporting to both CDPHE and the EPA throughout the duration of the project.
Despite the complexity of the site and the sensitivity of the environment, the project was completed with zero water discharged into the Crystal River, meeting all regulatory and environmental protection goals.
