Projects
BLM 18 Road Recreation Area Improvements
Ryno Construction completed improvements to the 18 Road Recreation Area for the BLM, including the construction of 23 new campsites with ADA fire pits, picnic tables, and standard fire rings. Work also included sub-grading, road base installation, a new pre-cast concrete toilet building, and a steel picnic gazebo to enhance visitor amenities and site accessibility.
BLM L07 Recreation Area Improvements
Ryno Construction improved public access at the BLM L07 Recreation Area near Meeker by grading and installing a road base parking lot, building OHV loading ramps, and installing a precast concrete toilet building. The project enhances recreational use and access to surrounding public lands.
CDOT Happy Canyon Wildlife Guards
Ryno Construction installed custom wildlife guards as part of the Happy Canyon and Lagae Road project in Castle Pines. Acting as miniature bridges, these large guards required special open-grid decking fabricated in Pennsylvania under CDOT supplemental specs. Ryno provided QA/QC oversight during fabrication, and overcame tight access challenges to assemble and set the 16’ x 30’ structures onto precast concrete footers. The project was completed on time with zero incidents, in full compliance with OSHA standards.
Camp Creek USDA Road Improvements
Ryno Construction was contracted to perform critical road repairs in the Camp Creek area, where infrastructure was damaged due to recent wildfires. Funded through FEMA wildfire relief, the project aimed to restore safe access to affected areas.
Campground 7 Reclamation
Ryno Construction worked with the EPA and CDPHE to remove lead-contaminated mine waste from a former mill site near the Animas River, protecting a vital water source for Southwestern Colorado. After mitigating contamination, we redeveloped the site into a public campground with gravel parking, a boulder perimeter, and transplanted willows to restore native vegetation. This project showcases our ability to reclaim legacy mine sites and turn them into clean, safe recreation areas.
Colorado Parks and Wildlife Crystal River Spring Line Imrovements
Ryno Construction replaced the spring line at the Crystal River Fish Hatchery to intercept irrigation water contaminating the raceways. We installed underground dyke walls, emergency diversion boxes, and performed extensive dewatering using a 15-inch bypass system. Operating under a CDPHE discharge permit, we reported to CDPHE and the EPA, and successfully completed the project with zero water discharged into the Crystal River.
Grouse Gulch Mine Closure Project
Ryno Construction completed emergency mine closures near Silverton, Colorado, at high elevation and in remote terrain. Closure types included native rock bulkheads, corrugated metal pipe (CMP), and polyurethane foam plugs. Materials were flown in via helicopter using a 100-foot long line, requiring expert coordination. Under a tight one-week deadline from the State of Colorado, Ryno mobilized quickly and completed all installations on time and in compliance, despite challenging weather and logistics.
Moffat County Coal Refuse Pit Reclamation
Ryno Construction reclaimed a 20-acre former coal mine site by excavating improperly disposed coal refuse and relocating it to a consolidated containment pit. The site was then regraded, covered with topsoil, and revegetated to restore natural conditions. We also installed erosion control measures to prevent stormwater pollution and ensure long-term site stability.
Monarch Limestone Quarry
Ryno Construction maintains an open contract at the Monarch Pass Limestone Quarry, providing active quarrying services for United States Lime and Minerals (USLM). We extract, sort, and size limestone and rock materials for USLM’s customers and partners. Our team is MSHA surface trained, and we have an MSHA-certified surface and underground trainer on staff, ensuring safe and compliant operations on active mine sites.
South Canyon Coal Mine Fire Rockfall Mitigation
Ryno Construction installed rockfall netting in the South Canyon area near Glenwood Springs to protect mountain bike trails and a county road below the active South Canyon coal mine fire. The project included technical rope access work on steep slopes and trail restoration through dirt work. Our team’s experience in rope-based construction ensured safe and effective rockfall mitigation in challenging terrain.
Stairway to Nowhere Mine Reclamation
Ryno Construction reclaimed abandoned mines on public lands near Walsenburg, Colorado, using bulkhead closures, machine backfill, monolithic concrete plugs, and polyurethane foam (PUF) closures. We managed stormwater discharge, completed full site reclamation, and revegetated the land to restore natural conditions.
Thunder WIIN Act Project
Ryno Construction removed arsenic-contaminated mine waste from the headwaters of the East Mancos River to prevent further pollution. We excavated and consolidated the waste, then capped it with rock and vegetation. Drainage from the mine was repaired and safely redirected, protecting the watershed and improving long-term water quality.
